TECHNICAL FOCUS: Gas Regulations within Commercial Catering and the Role of the Environmental Health Officer

Undertaking work on any gas appliances within a commercial catering establishment can be a very specialist activity. It is highly unlikely that a gas engineer who predominately works on a domestic boiler would have either the technical expertise, or the tools to be able to operate within this field. When ACS, Gas Assessments, were first introduced it became very clear that industry and stakeholders wanted, and required, gas engineers to be trained, assessed and in posession of certificates of competence. Certificates were to be held in their specialist areas of gas work and not a general qualification encompassing all activities.
